MOM TUDIE EVERYTHING YOU SAID

The video below is one of two halves, the first being ‘Isn’t Right’ where you’ll hop in the car with Mom Tudie and Kwaku Asante and travel through the colourful streets of South London, and then the second half is the focus of our List Pick today - ‘Everything You Said’. This latter half is where we end up are within the spaces of creativity and community where the likes of Tom Misch, Poppy Ajudha, Ezra Collective, and Puma Blue come together, and Mom Tudie of course. With a background in jazz, hip-hop and soul and self-taught skills in production, the 23-year-old artist blends these sounds into a rippling production of winding electronics and oscillating synths that are likely to keep you guessing as much as that 'situation-ship' you had back in the day. The track weaves and bobs with Giorgia Lo’s London-accented R&B vocals as she repeatedly ponders over the same line, “Everything you said to me / Looking back on all my dreams / It’s a tragedy / Every little thing that you said to me.” The refrain conveys the origin of this bittersweet single, as Mom Tudie reveals: “I guess it’s about pondering old relationships, the feeling of betrayal I think everyone feels a bit. I got hung out to dry by a girl at uni, and left wondering what happened, so I wrote about it.” Written alongside Giorgia Lo, ‘Everything You Said’ was the producer’s first venture into lyric and melody writing, but soon became the impetus for Tudie’s High Ceilings EP. - Hannah Thacker
